Small Garden-Part 5- Signs

In this Small Garden Series (links to the other 4 posts at the end of this post), we have discussed various topics..... and today I thought I would address signs.

There are many possibilities for signs in the garden. They can be used to give directions, label plants, or they can also be just for fun, for interest... or for meditation.... so many possibilities.

This is the back of the sign just above...  the one that labels the back garden.  It is just a quick little sign on old wood...

I started this group of signs because of all of the various garden beds we had developed in our yard. I needed to be able to tell the family where to go to work... which bed needed harvesting, weeding or watering. One son just quickly cut up some old fence boards... and I painted quickly without much planning.....

I named the gardens.... the various garden beds... and then labeled them.  It really helped to keep things straight, so that we all knew what we were talking about without me having to go out to the garden with family members each time I asked them to do something or told them about the harvest almost ready in a certain area.

Other signs were just for fun....

The family liked this one....

Too many signs would be overwhelming and would look cluttered, but a few here and there can add interest...

Signs can be painted on old fence boards... using regular acrylic paint.
They last a long time....

Different shapes can be used....

Whimsy can be fun......

Simple works fine.... or be more elaborate if you like.

Most likely I will make some more this year... I would like to make some to label my specific herbs... and maybe the perennials. We'll see..... life is pretty busy around here. :)

Signs can be fun.... you can buy them or paint them.... you can even use permanent markers and stencils... so many options.
