Each year, our peach tree gets loads and
loads of blossoms...... they look so beautiful.
They are colorful and the pretty pinks look so nice against the green and blue backgrounds........
It is especially enjoyable to see after the long, cold, dark and dreary days of winter. I do enjoy winter and snow and cold and even the stark look of trees against the sky.......I am so glad for the changing seasons.
But by the middle to the end of winter, I am longing for the days of warm sunshine and plants growing again in the garden. Also longing to see more colors than...........drab.
I realize that my heart can possibly go through changing seasons also. Maybe it has been a while since there was active growth in my life. Maybe I am attempting to protect my heart so much that I do a bit of hibernating.
When I do that, I find that I am not experiencing as much joy in my life......maybe I am coasting....and yearning for the growing relationship of spring and summer.......
The dark and dull colors of winter start to get to me and I can feel sad and down and I think that I need some sunshine........and flowers.
That may be true, but the problem could also be deeper..............
Maybe my heart has grown cold.......and I don't enjoy God's Word as I used to.........or as I should. At times like that, I can still smile and say the right words, but somehow they seem hollow. The joy I used to know is replaced with resignation and duty.
I find myself obeying God's Word - the letter of the law, but maybe not the spirit. There isn't any deviousness to my actions - at least not intentional ones - more like weariness.
Some things can bring joy to my life - maybe surprises or special times....but it only lasts a short time and then the weariness of life again overtakes me........I know it shouldn't be this way......God is able to bring joy to our sad hearts.
What is the answer? Well, the answer has to be going back to God's Word...
"Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts:
And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting."
Psalm 139:23,24
"Let us search and try our ways and turn again to the Lord. "Lamentations 3:40
"Rejoice in the Lord alway: and again I say, Rejoice." Philippians 4:4
"And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him." Colossians 3:17
God can, and will, renew our hearts............and joy will come again....and we will grow again and flourish........a springtime in our hearts. Maybe it's time to search our hearts........and begin to grow.....abundantly.
beginning in your heart.

Actually, these pictures are from the last couple of years......we still have cold and snow....and I am ready for flowers, so pulled out the pictures. :)
DeleteGreat analogy! Sometimes my heart grows cold and needs to come alive again, just as nature comes alive in the spring.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the reminder that God can renew our hearts!
Thank you.....me too.........I guess that is why the verse that says "Create in me a clean heart, O Lord, and renew a right spirit within me" is so important to me. Thank you for visiting.
