I have been a bit dissatisfied with most chocolate chip cookie recipes that I have tried, for one reason or another (and I have used many different recipes....I bake a LOT of cookies at my house!). I use only butter as the fat in cookies - no shortening and many times the cookies turn out to be too flat when I use only butter. I just refuse to use shortening, though, as the hydrogenated fats are so bad for my family......and besides, butter tastes better. :)
I have found a couple of recipes that I like for chocolate chip cookies, but I kept searching for something better. Recently, I found a recipe that I was able to tweak a bit and we REALLY like it. I made them again today.....and remembered to take pictures.....finally!
The recipe is a bit different, in that there is no vanilla in it............also the ratio of eggs and butter is different from most chocolate chip recipes. I added oatmeal also..........and the cookie dough is stiff...they take a bit of arm strength to stir up....but they are really worth it. I admit that I called on one of my sons today to stir at the end when my arm was really tired...... He knows that a "labourer is worthy of his hire" meaning that he gets to eat a cookie when they are done...he was certainly a willing worker. :)
I like that the cookies stay chunky - and not flat. They are a bit crispy on the outside....but so chewy inside. I have also found that they do well in the cookie jar.....many of the chocolate chip cookies from other recipes will stick together in the cookie jar....or dry out....these seem to stay separate nicely.....and last well............at least as far as I can tell since cookies don't last too long at my house!!! :)
I decreased the amount of chocolate chips from the original recipe and yet there are still lots of chips.
375 degrees
ungreased cookie sheet 8 minutes
Buttery Chocolate Chip Cookies
1 1/2 cup granulated sugar
1 1/2 cup brown sugar
2 cups butter, softened(yes, that is 4 sticks)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
2 large eggs
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
4 1/2 cups flour
2 teaspoons baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup rolled oats (could add up to 1 cup, if desired)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1 1/2 packages chocolate chips
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
2 cups chopped nuts (optional)
Add ingredients to a large mixing bowl, in the order written, and stir well each time there is a line in the recipe. (I am teaching some of my kids how to make cookies and this is so much easier for them to see at a glance what to add and when to stir). Dough will be stiff....just keep stirring. Drop by teaspoons full on ungreased cookie sheet and bake for 8-10 minutes. Cool about 2 minutes or so on pan, then put them on a wire rack to cool. These taste delicious........and they do freeze well. Enjoy!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I hope you like these as well as we do.......we have made them several times and they are popular with all who try them.
Thank you for visiting my blog today.........I hope you have a wonderful day!!
Hi
ReplyDeleteI think your chocolate cookies look absolutely scrumptious! I will definitely try your recipe. Thank you for visiting me and leaving such kind words! Have a wonderful week! Karen
I'm glad you plan to try them.....they are REALLY good. :) Thank you for visiting.
DeleteThese look marvelous, I'll have to give them a try. My chocolate chip cookies always end up flat, so I'm looking for a new one! Thanks.
ReplyDeleteI hope you like these......I got so tired of flat cookies and love them chunkier........although I will still eat flat chocolate chip cookies if the other kind is not available. :) Thank you for visiting.
DeleteWow! These look great! <3
ReplyDeleteThank you............... :)
DeleteI have pinned your cookie recipe and I look forward to giving it a try. Like you I only use butter in my cooking (just no reason to use anything else) so I am super excited to try these cookies as they look like they do not "spread" as much!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad....these really are so good. :)
DeleteI'm with you, I have such trouble finding a good chocolate chip cookie recipe! It's bad enough that I have been buying the cookie dough rolls, which I just hate doing! I'm going to try this recipe and see how it goes!
ReplyDeleteI hope you like these - they are really good....we made more this week again. :)
DeleteThanks for sharing your recipe. That is always my one son's complaint - that the cookies get hard after a day or two. I will have to try this recipe.
ReplyDeleteThese are wonderful when not baked hard, but still soft....w/ a bit of a crisp on the outside.....yum. :)
DeleteYour cookies look so good! Is there anything better than a good cookie?! I think not ;)
ReplyDeleteCookies are pretty good!! especially homemade. :)
DeleteI'll give these a try, that is my frustration with butter also, the flatness. The pics are making me want to go cook them now instead of dinner :)
ReplyDeleteHmmmm, instead of dinner? :) I understand that though.... They are really good.
DeleteThese look like perfect chocolate chip cookies. Wish I could have them for breakfast. If you have not shared yet at the Bacon Time linky, please do.
ReplyDeleteThese are our favorite chocolate chip cookies, for right now anyway. :)
DeleteThey look so good! I'm always on the lookout for chocolate chip cookies that don't spread. Though lately I simply started to reduce the butter, since I got tired of sad, flat cookies.
ReplyDeleteThat would be a shame to reduce the butter - but I know what you mean....I hope you can try these....
DeleteOh your cookies look amazing! Yum, yum! Makes me want to whip up a batch. Thanks for sharing at the My Favorite Things Party. Hope to see you again tomorrow. Theresa @Dearcreatives
ReplyDeleteYes, that is a little shocking, isn't it? They are wonderful, though! This is the main cookie recipe we have been using for a while. I have started adding things to the dough also... like coconut, sunflower seeds and more... still delicious. :) Thank you for visiting.
DeleteOver from Stephanie's.....I'm making these today. Your newest follower.....angela
ReplyDeleteWelcome... I am so glad you are now following my blog. :) I hope you love these as much as we do.... they are wonderful! :)
DeleteReporting back.....these are a hit!!! They are not flat. They only require one bowl (I did use a hand held mixer). And they make a ton....which is great because I have 6 children who ate the first dozen! Thanks again, Angela
DeleteI read your comment to my kids... and they all laughed... I have 6 kids and they eat the cookies quickly also... and they could identify w/ your group! :) I am so glad you like them... we sure enjoy them. They also freeze VERY well which is wonderful and we can pull them out a few days later to thaw and enjoy.. BUT one of my sons has developed quite a taste for frozen cookies. Hmmm.... I'm finding they don't last as long! :)
DeleteGood morning, my dear! Just wanted to let you know that this delicious recipe has been featured at Roses of Inspiration :) Like Angela, I want to make these either today or sometime this week :) Hugs to you!
ReplyDeleteWhat a pleasant surprise and blessing. :) Thank you. I hope you like these cookies as much as we do..... they have been thoroughly enjoyed here at our house... and we are making them this week for my daughter's birthday... but will be using pink, red and white m&ms instead of chocolate chips. She LOVES pink. :)
DeleteThose look delicious! I wish I had some right now. Stopping by from the Country Fair Blog Party!
ReplyDeleteThey are so good... my daughter just made a batch of them using m&m s instead of chips. Yum... they are wonderful. :) This is THE recipe we use more than any other now. :) I hope you like it also.
ReplyDeleteI hope you love these as much as we do... they are really good.... we have some cooling in the house right now, so I have recently tested this recipe again!!!!! :) We are all enjoying them. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you... they are yummy and they do freeze wonderfully well, allowing them to be thawed and eaten at short notice. :)
