A whimsical window? You may be wondering WHAT that means! When we bought our house, the bathroom had no window and that bothered me so.............I painted one.
I drew a straight line for the bottom and then made the arch and added the division for the window panes. All was done in light pencil.
I decided that it would always be sunny with pretty white fluffy clouds "outside" this window.
I used the end of a round stencil sponge on a stick to make the clouds - using varying amounts of white paint - starting softly at first and then getting stronger in color. I put a tinge of yellow on the tops of the clouds to show it as a sunny day.
Butterflies and a flowering bush helped to add color. The nice thing about a whimsical window is that it isn't meant to be a perfect rendition of a real window. It is fun.
I painted this several years ago - not sure how many, but it has to be probably 10 or so....and I took these pictures last night, so you can tell it has lasted well - even in the bathroom, right over the shower and with all of the humidity from baths and showers from a lot of people. When we paint the walls of the bathroom, we just paint around the "window".
When I first painted this, we were all excited about it and any visitors were taken up to the bathroom to show them our "new" window. :) Over the years, we have become used to it and don't show it off anymore, but it still gets many comments from people who see it.
Several of my children do not remember me painting this.....it just has always been there, in their minds, so they must have been too little when I did it to notice. They do enjoy it though...and we all do. It is fun to add a bit of whimsy to our homes.....and it can be done in so many ways. One thing I think I will do in the future when I paint whimsical pictures on the wall is to date it.....I would love to have it dated so I know for sure when I did it. I can search though old planning calendars and probably find the date, but that is a lot of extra work. So, if you do some whimsy painting....you may want to be sure to date them.
Thank you for visiting my blog today. I hope you have a wonderful day.
