Spice Rack Mystery....

I had a mystery with my spice rack...........
Every day, all of the spices were backwards.............The first day was puzzling, but funny.......
The 2nd day was puzzling.......and a little funny..........
The 3rd day was puzzling .......and frustrating, but not very funny............and so on.........

I have spices in other places also, but I love this spice rack and had my oldest son build it a few years ago....to my specifications...notice how the some of the spice containers fit just so perfectly? I loved it!...........it was perfect............then a couple of months later, the company with the "perfect" sized containers added about 1/8" to the height of their container. Uggghhhhh...........But I digress..........

Anyway, I love my spice rack and am so thankful for the son who made it as a school project in our homeschool and I use it often.........VERY often...........and all has been well.............until this mystery of the backwards spices. Most of them I could still just pick out, but many of them needed to be turned around so that I could see which one I needed.

I told the family of my problem and asked............no one had any clue of what could be happening....Like I said, puzzling..........I asked each of the kids and none of them were putting the spices backwards. By the way, I was by this time, turning them forward every day, thinking the problem was over, but alas, it wasn't......this went on for a while and I became somewhat adjusted to life with a backwards spice rack.....I mean, life is too busy to obsess about such a little thing, so I let it go and usually, at least once a day, I had a front-facing rack of spices.

I dealt with my attitude about it and was fine with the backwards spices, although I still occasionally switched them around to the front, thinking fondly of the days when they always stayed that way.

Then one day, as I was standing near the rack and talking with some of my children, and we were all laughing, I happened to glance at one son who had his hand on the spice bottles and was just rubbing his hands along the bottles first one direction and then the other............sometimes on one shelf and sometimes on another.

MYSTERY SOLVED!!! Upon further investigation with said son, I found out that he didn't even realize he was turning the spices backwards, he just liked the feel of the containers rolling under his hand. We all laughed at the realization of the solution to the problem, although my son was a bit embarrassed to be the center of attention over it.........and he agreed to leave the spices alone.

The thought came to me to wonder how many times I unwittingly do something without thinking, that complicates life for me or others. I want to be more deliberate in my actions and thoughts......rather than just doing something without thinking, I want to think carefully and deliberately encourage, challenge, walk faithfully, be at peace, speak kindly and more. How easy it is to make a quick little comment, maybe it is funny or sarcastic......or just thoughtless, and hurt someone else and cause them great difficulty without me even noticing.

I love the verse, Proverbs 31:26 "She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness."

I know it is not only our mouths that we need to watch, but so much of what we do involves using the mouth..............I want to open my mouth with wisdom and I want to have the law of kindness in my tongue. I want my life to show Jesus to those around me.    Lord, please help me to be aware of careless words or actions, so that I bless others rather than hurt or frustrate them.

Thank you for visiting my blog today. I hope you have a good day and a day of deliberately living for the Lord.

  4. Hahahaha! This is awesome! But I love what you got out of it and it is so true. This last week a young gal said something to me, and I could have totally taken it wrong and maybe felt annoyed with her, because I thought she was being purposed rude. But I realized that God was giving me grace to keep my mouth shut, and I realized that she was talking about something entirely different than I thought she was.

I was so thankful to Him that he closed my mouth and allowed my brain to work so that I could realize that she wasn't trying to be rude at all! Thanks so much for linking up to Making Your Home Sing Monday!

  8. That is just hilarious. Kids! Lol But now the mystery is solved. I can't understand why companies feel the need to change a good thing. Sigh. I have a similar spice rack on the wall and keep them in alphabetical order.
