My
daughter, who is a beautiful young woman, likes to wear hats.....and
she loves vintage hats and outfits....not all vintage, but the vintage
ones that are romantic and feminine. A year or 2 ago, she had an outfit
that she put together, but no hat and she asked for help.
She wanted something really feminine that fit with her old looking outfit. Time was short, but I love my daughter and we brainstormed. Money was tight and so we used what we had......except for the little spray that sticks up from the hat - we bought that.
We had only a few days to consider what we wanted to do....and find materials. I love using what I have on hand instead of having to go out and buy each item we need.
We put together muslin, lace, satin ribbons of different pale colors, pearls and the sprig that stands up.
We experimented and made a few little pink ribbon rosebuds, scrunched some lace here and there and added some light stiffening to shape it a bit.
We decided to have it off center, and to have it sit at a diagonal on her head. Do you know how hard it is to find pictures of old fashioned ladies' hats? We had hoped to find a picture of what we were thinking about. Finally, we just used our imaginations....added a fabric flower that we made... adjusted this, added that.....
It turned out....and she was beautiful - she felt like a princess. :) I love it that she is a feminine young woman and that she is confident enough to wear those modest and, sometimes, old fashioned styles that look so nice on her, but are not the norm for young women of today.
Yes, we made it for a Resurrection Sunday (Easter). It was a special hat for a special day and we learned a little bit about making hats and we had fun working together on the project.....and I enjoyed helping my daughter dream a bit and make it a reality.
What we came up with may not be historically accurate, but it worked for our purposes.

Hmmmmm......This looks familiar! lol! <3
ReplyDeleteI wonder why! :)
DeleteWhat fun! And job well done! I love vintage, too and sometimes think about bringing back wearing hats and gloves on a regular basis, but then I live too much of a mucky life for that finery most of the time.
ReplyDeleteThank you! It is fun to dress up.....I sure understand the "mucky life" too. :) I have hats that I wear for gardening or working outside....but they aren't "vintage".....just functional. My daughter did wear gloves w/ this also....fun for a special time. :) Thank you for visiting.
DeleteHow lovely! I love old fashioned things.
ReplyDeleteThank you.....I do too. :)
DeleteWhat a beautiful hat! You are so talented!
ReplyDeleteI really enjoy your blog, and nominated you for an award. If you'd like to participate, please stop by my blog. If not, that's fine too! It does take some work, but it's kind of fun.

Thank you. :)
DeleteSuch a pretty and feminine hat. Love the lace on the sides and the pearls hanging down. Wonderful job that you did on this...even when our daughters are older, it's still fun to help them dress up and feel special & pretty, isn't it? Blessings to you this Easter, Catherine (latest follower of your blogging adventures) :)
ReplyDeleteIt is...........and I love to see it. Blessings to you also................thank you for visiting and following! :)
DeleteWhat a sweet and beautiful hat and how lovely to see a young woman wanting to wear one! I agree with Kate that it would be just divine to see a return to girls dressing like 'ladies'. Gorgeous job!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much.........I also love the dressing like "ladies"..... especially in our culture that tries so hard to do away with the beauty of femininity that God created. Thank you for stopping by. :)
Deletewe should all have a dress up day that would be fun couldn't do it everyday love it thanks for sharing have a great week

ReplyDeleteThank you... it was fun to figure it out and have it turn out to be something she really liked. :)
DeleteHow lovely! And what a fun project. This is the kind of thing my daughter enjoys too! I love the anti-trendy concept as it is very refreshing.
ReplyDeleteI do too.... I love hats and wear them a lot... and I love it that my girls will also wear them. My oldest daughter loves taking it even further and has developed her own style that is elegant, without being pretentious... and is modest and feminine. I love it that she enjoys the older styles too. :) Thank you for stopping by.
DeleteThat's so gorgeous! Has your daughter ever looked at Lolita? It's a clothing style that my sister does and I think your daughter would like it.
ReplyDelete- Linking over from weekend blog party
