Homemade Breadsticks With Herbed Butter

My family loves breadsticks, so recently for a birthday meal with lasagna, I made homemade breadsticks. I tried something different with them.... I made some herbed butter for them. Yum.  These were really good... and now another birthday son has asked for them this week to go with his choice of Spaghetti Pie.

This is a stick of butter in a pan, melting..... I added fresh basil, parsley, and thyme. My rosemary has disappeared this year, for some reason, or I would have added that also. I also put some garlic powder (we were all out of fresh garlic).
I just made our regular bread recipe... and I am sorry I haven't posted that yet.... Some have asked for it and I will do a post on that... soon, I hope.  Anyway, using regular bread dough, we just formed "logs" by rolling them between our hands.

My youngest daughter and I made two pans of these.... they look funny and are not "perfect", but they tasted great. We were in a hurry, had sick people in the house, etc, so this was the best we could do at the time.

We rolled them and put them on a greased pan and allowed them to raise.
After they raised enough, I spooned melted herb butter on/over them, and sprinkled with Parmesan Cheese. I baked them at 350-400 degrees for about 25 minutes or so.

When they came out of the oven, I spooned more herb butter on them and sprinkled more parmesan cheese over the top and let them sit for a couple of minutes for the butter to soak in.
I lined a metal basket with a cloth and then also lined the inside of the cloth with paper napkins to absorb the excess grease and protect my cloth. :)
After we were all done, I realized that the odd shapes really didn't matter - they were not uniformly shaped, but it just added to the "charm" of the homemade breadsticks. :)

These breadsticks were so good... they were hot and crusty on the outside, soft and steamy inside. The butter formed the crusty goodness.

In the future, I would like to put fresh garlic and maybe onion also, along with the herbs. We will definitely be making these again... this week. :)

    1. Thank you.... I hope your family loves them as much as mine does! In fact, the family LOVED the lasagna and other foods that night, but it seemed that everyone agreed that the breadsticks were the best part of the meal. :)

  8. The breadsticks that aren't the perfect shape are the best kind. It usually means they were made in house and are healthier. At least that's how it is in Italy. Complimenti! #weekendpotluck
