We make a lot of cookies at our house... and today I wanted to make Snickerdoodles since my husband loves them.... and the rest of the family does also. I decided to experiment to make them a bit more special. Special is good....
I made a double batch... I know that Snickerdoodles go fast around here.
I had some cherry juice in the freezer.... this was from last summer when we picked sour cherries... as we pitted them, there was a lot of juice and I saved it... I have used it in several fun ways. I figured this might be another one. :) My husband's favorite dessert is cherry pie... and he loves cherries.
When I first put the cherry juice in and stirred it up, the dough turned BRIGHT pink... but after putting so much flour in and stirring, the color settled down to a paler pink.
There were actually a lot of cookies from this....
After baking, they weren't even pink at all.... so I put a pale pink border around this one. :)
There isn't much cherry flavor to these... not like I had hoped, but they are still REALLY good. :) When I make them again, I plan to put about a cup of the cherries in the cookie dough (in my double batch!) and I am sure that will help to retain more of the cherry taste. :)
They are soft, chewy... and really good. :) I haven't experimented with Snickerdoodles before, but now that I have... I may think of other possibilities..... what a great tasting cookie. :)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1 cup butter
2 1/4 cups sugar Cream together
.........................................
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
1/4 cup sour cherry juice Blend in
........................................
3 3/4 cups flour
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp cream of tartar Mix in
...............................
1/2 cup sour cherries, optional
......................................
3 Tablespoons sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon Mix together in a separate small bowl.
Either form balls of dough and dip in the cinnamon sugar and place on cookie sheet or
take a teaspoonful of dough and press it into the cinnamon sugar (much easier and faster) and place it on the cookie sheet and flatten just a little with the bottom of a glass. Bake at 375 degrees for about 8-9 minutes. Makes about 3 dozen depending on how large you make the cookies... ours were pretty large. :) Enjoy.
Thank you... and thank you for the blog party. :)
Delete#BigTopBlogParty. Great idea of freezing the cherry juice to use when needed. The cookies look great.
ReplyDeleteI just can't see wasting any of that good juice... or letting the guys just use it up right away when I could make it last a while. :) Thank you for visiting.
DeleteCherry sinckerdoodles looks delicious, Thanks for sharing with Hearth and soul blog hop, pinning, tweeting and sharing google plus.
ReplyDeleteThank you.
DeleteYour Snickerdoodles look delicious! I love the way you have incorporated cherries & cherry juice. Funnily enough, I'm the one who loves cherries in our house. My hubby was given a slice of cherry pie to eat when he was little and whoever had made it didn't bother to remove the stones! They said it was normal to have to 'eat round them' - it put him off for life. I'm constantly trying to help him like cherries again - perhaps your lovely cookies will help! Thank you for sharing with us at the Hearth and Soul hop.
ReplyDeleteIf you do try to win him over... be sure there are no pits!!! :) I hope it works. Thank you for visiting... and for the great link up party. :)
DeleteWhat a beautiful cookie! And I love that you didn't waste that cherry juice as most people would have done.
ReplyDeleteIt sure tasted good... although it will be quite a while before I have the cherry juice to try it again. :)
DeleteI love Snickerdoodles, but never think to make them. Although I bake cookies quite often. Adding the cherry juice is a clever idea! Thanks for sharing with SYC.
ReplyDeletehugs,
Jann
My family does too... and a batch doesn't last long. The cherry juice gave a great flavor. Thank you for visiting and for the blog party... I enjoy it. :)
