Sunshine Eggs!

I grew up knowing that these were called Deviled Eggs, but when we had little children, I didn't want to serve "Deviled" eggs, so we changed the name to..... SUNSHINE EGGS!

It stuck... and over the years the kids have always known them as sunshine eggs. It has been funny to hear people at church dinners or family dinners tell that they started calling them Sunshine Eggs because they heard it from our family.

We make them just like deviled eggs are made... with some dressing, mustard, salt and pepper. Sometimes we sprinkle some paprika on top for color.

They are tasty and we don't even think about the oddity of calling them "Sunshine Eggs" anymore.

Whatever you call them, they taste great! :)

So, if you hear someone talking about Sunshine Eggs, now you will know what they mean, or at least that's what it means w hen we say that name!

By the way, we also changed Devil's Food Cake.... to Chocolate Cake..... just didn't want to give the devil any attention... not even with the name. It may seem silly, but that's what we did in our family.... and it has lasted well.  :)

Thank you for visiting. Do you have names for foods in your home that are not the "normal" ones? Feel free to share them in the comments... I would love to see them.

    1. Thank you! It is funny since we had no idea it would last so many years... we have a few adult children now... and they still call them Sunshine Eggs! :) Thank you for visiting.

  4. Funny, a lady at our church makes "Sunshine Eggs"... she's called it that for years. Everyone loves hers. The title caught my eye and the link brought me to your blog. :) My daughter started calling sunbeams "God-rays" when she was four, so it stuck and we still use that (she's 21 now). :) She also called things that were pointy and pokey (like a shirt tag, or a cactus) "Poinkey"... and we still use that as a family also. lol. I'm sure we have other ones that I can't think of at the moment, probably because we forget that they are our made up words. Hee hee...

    1. I am not sure, but I think it is because they are all stirred up or something similar. I just didn't like to use the devil in anything. Thank you for visiting... and for sharing. :)

  6. For some reason, I've never minded "deviled" eggs, but I always (even as a child) thought "devil's food cake" was very odd and so always just called it "chocolate cake." But maybe I'll switch to your "sunshine eggs."

    1. I'm glad I'm not the only one who dislikes the name devil's food cake. :) Chocolate cake sounds better to me. We have heard of quite a few people who have switched from deviled eggs...to sunshine eggs, which is fun... but we haven't had a problem w/ other people calling them a different name. :) Thank you for visiting.
