We are trying hard to increase our fluid intake... and are drinking a lot of plain water. Sometimes, though, it is nice to have something with a little flavor... a little different, so I have been making these Fruit and Herb Waters.
I don't know why I stopped making such drinks... it doesn't take long... and it doesn't take a lot of ingredients... and I have fresh herbs right outside in my garden!
This one is Lemon, Basil, Sage and Mint Water and it is so refreshing, with a light flavor, but not like a lemonade. It is just a fresh water taste. I used 1 lemon sliced and a few herbs... to make a gallon of drink... and then I also refilled it with water, so we actually made 2 gallons of drink with this small amount of ingredients. Delicious!
This next one is Lime, Basil, Lemon Balm and Mint.
There is only one small lime sliced, and some herbs... not a lot.
It gave some flavor and this drink was refreshing also... the herbs add a little taste.. not a lot as I don't want to overpower the taste. I love that we are getting some nutrition in with our fluids, but no sugar or fake additives.
This drink is Orange-Basil Water. Yes, I have a lot of basil. :) This basil isn't as strong as some of them, so if you have the strong basil, you may want to put just a little in to see how much you like.
I thought I would show this Orange-Basil Water with what we had for supper that night... they went quite well together.
We had meatloaf burgers... and they were WONDERFUL! If you are interested, you can find the recipe here:
Hearty Meatloaf Burgers
We have enjoyed all of the Fruit and Herb Waters and I have more to try and will plan to share those in a future post.
I am pleased that my family is enjoying these drinks and we are getting a bit of nutrition from them. I think it is helping us to drink a bit more fluid also.
Yes, I still encourage each one to drink a LOT of plain water also, but 2 or 3 glasses of the fruit waters a day has been a nice addition to our water intake... and we can also eat the fruit that is in the drink. This has been especially helpful with the hot temperatures we have had lately.
By the way, one daughter said that her favorite of these 4 drinks was the first one... the Lemon, Sage, Basil and Mint. Just a reminder... you don't need a lot of the herbs to add a little flavor... and bruising the leaves can help more flavor to be released into the water, although I didn't do that for most of mine.
I love how fresh and colorful the pitcher of Fruit and Herb Water is... I hope you enjoy some of these also... or experiment and find some other combinations you enjoy. I have a few more to try. Thank you for visiting. I hope you have a great week. :)

These sound so refreshing! It's so hot here right now and sometimes we get carried away and haven't had that much water to drink by the day's end. These seem like they would make the water almost like a "treat." I think we'll try the lemon, basil, sage and mint one!
ReplyDeleteThat's why I started them again... the high heat and needing to get more fluids... and they sure do feel like a treat. I hope you like them as much as we do. I am going to try a new mixture today. We'll see how my new blends turn out. :)
DeleteI like doing this, too. We have recently stayed in two different hotels that had fruit-infused water in their lobbies. I couldn't get enough of it. So refreshing and a nice switch from plain water.
ReplyDeleteIt is good... I did see it in a hospital waiting room recently and that was the first time I have seen such a thing... they had strawberries in the water. It looked wonderful, but our taste of the water didn't really taste like strawberry... but it did taste fresh a bit. We sure are enjoying these here at home. :)
DeleteAt my mother's nursing home fruit-infused water is available to guests--fresh fruits in a gallon of water. Your recipes sound great. I love the addition of herbs.
ReplyDeleteI am starting to hear of the fruit water in public... sounds like a great idea. :) I do like the herbs in it here at home. Thank you for visiting.
DeleteThese sound amazing!
ReplyDeleteThank you. :)
DeleteI love flavored water and make mint water a lot because of all the mint I have in my garden. I should step it up with some of your ideas though! They sound amazing!
ReplyDeleteI love that we can absorb a little nutrition throughout the day, just from some good tasting water. :)
DeleteYour post is very timely because I was just talking to a friend about these waters the other day and was wondering what combinations to put together. Great post and lovely photos!
ReplyDeleteThank you! I love it when the timing works out so well like that! I'm sure I will keep experimenting and making more of these, but may not post any more of them. I think there are probably LOTS of combinations that will work great. :) Thank you for visiting.
DeleteI loved flavoured water as we need to keep hydrated and sometimes plain water becomes a little boring. Thanks for sharing with us at #overthemoon link party.
ReplyDeleteIt is a good alternative to plain water... or sugary drinks. I still drink mostly plain water, but I love these drinks for a few glasses of flavored water each day. :)
DeleteThanks for linking up with us on the Blended Blog! I have been dying to make fruit infused drinks- gonna borrow some of these ideas.
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome... I hope you enjoy them as much as we do. :)
DeleteThose are some great flavours! I think my favourite is the orange-basil one, sounds amazing :) Those are all perfect for the summer months!

They are so nice and fresh... we are sure enjoying them in the summer. Not sure if we will make them in the winter, but I am already contemplating some ideas on how to make them interesting for winter too. :)
DeleteI keep hearing about these fruit waters...I really need to try them. Thanks for the nudge.
ReplyDeleteI didn't realize they were a "thing" until after I posted these 2 posts... silly, I guess, but have been so busy and have missed the hype. I just experiment for my family's health and this worked well. Hope you enjoy them sometime. :)
